Bob Devine Awarded Photographic Society of America Distinction

Bob Devine Awarded Photographic Society of America Distinction

The Photographic Society of America (PSA) is pleased to announce that Bob Devine, PPSA has been awarded the Proficiency Distinction (PPSA) in recognition of his photographic achievement record in PSA recognized International Exhibitions of photography. To qualify for the Proficiency Distinction, 288 or more acceptances are required. The award Certificate will be presented in September at the 2013 PSA International Conference in Portland, Maine USA. The award includes an invitation to submit a sample of work to the PPSA Gallery on the PSA web site.

Kent County Photographic Association Annual Exhibition 2013

The Kent County Photographic Association Annual Exhibition opened last night (28 March 2013) at the Maidstone Museum and Bentliff Art Gallery. The exhibition runs until 19 May.

The exhibition attracted 1368 print entries, of which 212 were accepted. Three judges who are extremely well known on the national scene selected the pictures that made up the exhibition: Gwen Charnock FRPS, MFIAP, Phil Charnock FRPS, MFIAP, and Rosemary Wilman HonFRPS, AFIAP, BPE5*. Given an acceptance rate of less than one in six entries, many congratulations are due to all the photographers who had their work accepted.

Ashford Photographic Society had major successes in this exhibition. 26 prints from members were accepted, and, of these, one was awarded a PAGB gold medal, two were awarded PAGB ribbons and six were highly commended.

Nicholas Hill ARPS was awarded the PAGB gold medal in the Portraiture category for "Olympic Contender". This picture was featured on the front cover of the exhibition catalogue (see image at the top of this post). He was also awarded a PAGB ribbon for "Lady of the House" in the Colour Pictorial section. Bob Devine ARPS, DPAGB was awarded a PAGB ribbon for "Lioness and Cub" in the Nature category. Two further pictures from Nicholas (“Between Rounds” and “The Street Fighter”) and Bob (“Hoopoe with Lizard” and “Cheetah with Kill in Massai”) were highly commended; prints by David Marsh (“Cuillins from Elgol Beach”), and Stephen Cheek (“Lioness”) were highly commended.

Bob had one further picture accepted in the exhibition; Nicholas had three. Members of Ashford Photographic Society who were also successful in having pictures accepted were: George Pearson CPAGB (four), Martin Till LRPS, Philip Hinton LRPS, Sue Chapman ARPS, CPAGB (two), Jim Moody-Smith (two), Stephen Cheek (two) and Anthony Baines ARPS CPAGB.

Ashford win the KCPA Diamond Jubilee Trophy

The KCPA's Diamond Jubilee Trophy Competition (an inter-club PDI event) was hosted by Eastbourne PS and staged at the Birley Centre, Eastbourne on Saturday 23 March; 24 clubs competed. The competition was judged by Glyn Edmunds APSA EPSA EFIAP/s from Southampton CC who provided short comments on a selection of the images, ensuring that every club had at least one image commented upon.
Ashford PS won the competition with 141 points; Tonbridge CC and Invicta PC were joint second with 134 points. (the lowest total was 115). Adding to our celebrations Bob Devine's image "Lioness with cub" was adjudged the best image in the competition and so received the Premier Certificate and the Ashford PS Shield (a Trophy we presented when we staged the inuagural Diamond Jubilee Trophy competition) while Nicholas Hill's image  "Make your own alien, just add water" was awarded a Highly Commended certificate.
