Students from Homewood, Ashford, Highworth and the Norton Knatchbull schools gathered in The Sinden Theatre at Homewood School on Wednesday 25th January for the culmination of the 2016 Inter-Schools Print Competition, organised by Ashford Photographic Society and sponsored by Givaudan.
Entries came from 11 to 15’s and 16’s and over, each group being able to enter in colour or black and white, in Landscape, Natural History, Portraiture, Photo-Journalism, Pictorial and Artistic Interpretation. George Pearson DPAGB, who judged the competition, said that the overall quality was very high in all groups and he was very impressed by the imagination and enthusiasm of the photographers. All prints entered were on display for family and friends to see and the winning photographs were projected, so that the judge could explain what it was he saw in the pictures that made him choose them. Cups, certificates and prizes were handed to the winning students by Neville Marsh DPAGB LRPS BPE3*, President of Ashford Photographic Society.
The winning school this year was Norton Knatchbull, very closely followed by Highworth (just 1 point in it).
Ashford Photographic Society would like to say how pleased they are to be able to bring this competition to the schools, made possible by the generous sponsorship of Givaudan. Thank you also to Homewood School for hosting the competition and to the staff who gave of their valuable time to help in making it all run smoothly. This year, 2017, it is hoped that the competition will be hosted by the Norton Knatchbull School in Ashford. If more schools would like to join in with this year’s competition APS would be pleased to hear from them, and contact can be made through our website at www.ashfordps.org.uk.
