Ray Bridges LRPS CPAGB ADPS BPE3*, a member of Maidstone Camera Club of which he is Honorary Vice President, judged our 4th PDI Competition on Friday 16th January. Ray is an experienced judge and gave careful consideration to all the entries. His comments were full of ideas on how to improve not only the initial taking of the photograph but also the processing of the final image – lots of toning down required – and he felt that images should be both interesting and challenging. He said it was always a pleasure to judge at APS because of the high standard of our photography. His chosen winners were:-
Division 1: 1st Stuart Thompson with The High Five Team, 2nd Bob Devine with Sparrow Hawk On Goldfinch, 3rd Richard Nutter with Kingfisher with Fish for Mate No 2.
Division 2: 1st Chris Rogers with Leopard Drinking, 2nd Mark Caldwell with Red Carpet for The Archbishop, 3rd Graeme Andrews with Don’t Drink the Water.
Division 3: 1st Steven Baker with 4 of a Kind, 2nd Alan Britton with Bonnets and Webs, 3rd Suie Cheng with A Garden Visitor.
Next Friday, 23rd January, Chris Shore FRPS MPAGB EFIAP BPE5* and Helen Taylor ARPS DPAGB BPE3*, longstanding members of ARPS, will be giving advice on Competing in Panels. They are both experts in this field and their talk will be both fascinating and educational. Panels are an important part of the photographic world, and we have The Driftwood Trophy Print Panel Competition (donated by Chris Shore) in May, so an insight into the secrets of how to put one together will be invaluable for APS members.
