APS at the PAGB Inter-club PDI Championship

Saturday 15th July saw Ashford and Malling Photographic Societies represent the KCPA at the PAGB Inter-club PDI Championship at Warwick University. Chairman Philip Hinton and External Competition Secretary Graeme Andrews made the lengthy journey up for the day, together with members Sue Marcoz and Avril Christensen - keen to see national standard images.
Along with the 37 other clubs, we watched with anticipation as judging of the first round of our eight images unfolded. Well, after some 340 images, Ashford scored 89 with Smethwick leading with 109! Having witnessed what the three judges were favouring, Philip and Graeme chose the next 8 images for round two. It was apparent that neither Monochrome or highly manipulated images were in vogue this year.
Ashford scored 1 less in round two with 88, totaling 177, equaling Malling's total! Smethwick scored 110 this time so were the highest after the two rounds. The top eight clubs then battled it out, whilst we joined the Plate Trophy, contested by the remaining clubs.
We picked the two highest scoring images from earlier and added six new images. We had better scoring in the plate with five 13s, two 12s and an unfortunate 9! When the Plate results were announced, we scored 98, putting us in 22nd place overall. As predicted, the overall winning club was Smethwick,  scoring an average of no less than 14 out of 15 for each of their 20 images. No mean feat!

We returned bleary eyed and somewhat bewildered by the scoring given to similar images but still enjoyed the day.
